“The Europeans not
only colonialized most of the world, they began to colonialize information about the world and its people. In order to do this, they had to forget, or pretend to forget, all they had previously known abut the Africans.
It is unfortunate that so much of the history of Africa has been written by conquerors, foreigners, missionaries and adventurers. The Egyptians left the best record of their history written by local writers.
Egypt gave birth to what later would become known as ‘Western Civilization,’ long before the greatness of Greece and Rome.
When a Alexander the Greek (Not Great) came into Africa, instead of burning libraries, and that’s one of the greatest myths of history (The burning of Alexandria library 📚) he sent the books home to Aristotle, who rewrote a lot of them and put his name on them. And So a lot of what you think is Aristotle’s writings are plagiarism from African writings
The cruelest thing slavery and colonialism did to the Africans was to destroy their memory of what they were before foreign contact”
~John Henrik Clarke
He captured my thoughts exactly. The colonisation of information about Africa is more DETRIMENTAL than the geographical colonisation.
Dear fellow African people, we’ve got a lot of decolonisation to do.
Decolonise your minds
Decolonise your worldview
Decolonise your Tongue/language
Decolonise your names
Decolonise your spirituality and divinity
Decolonise your God (for the religious)
Decolonise your Government
Decolonise education
Etc
If you haven’t read any of his works, hurry now, you will be glad you did.
